    BoD - Opening Scene Idea?

I think the story is starting to take form in my head. Wouldn't that be nice? It surely would help in me having a shot at succeeding in NaNoWriMo.

The opening scene idea that just starting working itself out in my head is that BoD is somewhere where a robbery starts to go wrong. BoD looks around a bit disinterested, since she already knows the relative outcome. Her voice in my head is saying stuff like "I barely even flinch at loud sounds anymore." and "there was a time when I would...". Though her power doesn't prevent people, including herself, from getting hurt.

Perhaps BoD will be the narrator. A first person story. If I do that then it'd be a whole lot easier to convey to the reader what she is thinking and feeling. But, third person allows for broader coverage. I did the first person take with Faith, and while I liked that story for the most part, it did annoy me that I couldn't write about the stuff that was going on that she wasn't part of.

    Hm.

    Hard

It's so hard to not start writing yet!

I've pretty much settled on BoD. Why? Well, because it's the one I keep thinking about and having scene ideas for. Perhaps that will make it harder, because I do not yet know how it starts. Then again, I don't have to start at the beginning. *shrugs* We shall see.

I'm thinking of having Death be the narrator for the story. Just an idea.

More scene ideas, so I don't forget them:
    - BoD first meets Death. D curious about BoD. D seems familiar but BoD can't place her. After introduction, BoD not quite convinced. No robe, no scythe? D explains she didn't always carry a scythe. Before the farming tool was implemented humanity had her as ???.

    - Another meeting between BoD and D, BoD asks if she is on D's list. D refuses to tell, saying no one should have foreknowledge. BoD pleads, she doesn't want to know when, she simply wants to know if. As in, if she will/can die. D considers a moment, and again refuses to answer, because

    - Perhaps a scene where D explains why some things are is the power of human (collective) will.

    - The "You can't have him" scene. I don't so much feel obliged to have it, as I think I have an interesting concept for it where BoD and D are "shadowing" two normal people while having the same argument.

    - I think this is my favorite scene idea so far, and am going to try and remind myself without giving anything away: The last name ... without L there is no ....

    More Questions:
    - Where do BoD and D meet? Don't want to be like "Joan of Arcadia".
    - Is D only a personification in dreams? That would go along with the power of human will thing, where dreams are the world of will's creation.

    New Idea for BoD

Here's another story idea I came up with last year, in September (2004). I've narrowed down my choices for concepts for NaNoWriMo to three. This is the second one. I list it now because thinking on it for NaNoWriMo has gotten me a couple scene ideas as well as a plot idea (finally!) for BoD (that's "Bane of Death").

This is the original idea I had.

    The scene ideas are:
    - Death forcing BoD to make a choice of who to let die.
    - Somehow showing that Death is not malevolent or evil, just doing what it is supposed to.
    - People wanting BoD to help them and dealing with that. Kinda like the rush of people that happens when someone proves themselves to be a real psychic or medium.
    - Exploring how far BoD's effects go. Distance wise. Time wise. Volume wise, as in number of people protected at once.
    - Someone who's dying trying to get BoD to stay around. "All I know is, as long as you are around, I keep waking up."

    Questions for me to answer:
    - Is Death going to be an abstract, or will there be a personification?
    - Is BoD a fluke or anomaly? Or does BoD have a specific purpose?
    - Can BoD die?
    - Perhaps BoD is the personification of Life. In which case I may need Death to have a personification as well. Or perhaps with BoD as a person, Life is no longer an abstract that occurs on its own.
    - Is BoD a wanderer or tied to someplace?

The plot thought is: finding out why BoD exists, or what or who created her. Death wants to know so that it can find how go about its business unhindered.

    More Ideas for Troia

    - As an after to the most recent entry in Troia's story (Being the New Girl), Troia realizes the only person who can really help her is Cassie. The problem is, Troia doesn't quite know how to get a hold of Cassie....

    - Troia's fear of heights, which developed when her powers came, is abated when she discovers blunt things don't hurt when they hit her. Which means hitting the ground from far up won't hurt, which was the actual fear: falling and going splat.

    - Develop friendship between Troia and Kyle, kinda like a kid brother thing. She enjoys being around him and playing with him because he makes her feel more kid-like, more like Allie before Donna.

    - Develop relationship with Krypton/James where Troia playfully/sarcastically picks on him pretty consistently. Why? Because as the group's leader and Mr. Invulnerable he needs to not get too large an ego and remember that he's not infallible.

    Idea for Troia

Had another idea for Troia. I need to do a scene (or two or three) between her and Liz. Such as:
    - Troia telling Liz what's going on, and Liz's reaction
    - One of the two asking the other "When do I get to see you again?"
    - Maybe Troia consults with Liz about whether or not to take/keep a secret identity

This all pretty much means I have to flesh out Liz as a person. Which I should do anyways, I just haven't given it much thought before now!

Afterthought: A scene between Troia and her parents for the first time since she left home. Perhaps parents/Mom treat her differently, as if she squeezes too hard she might break her daughter. Does the get together end in another fight or well? Hm..., have to think this through as well.

    Idea for Troia

Want to get this down before I forget it, 'cause I don't think I'll be writing the scene for a while. (Which makes me wonder, all these ideas I'm writing down in here, will I forget to go back and write them?)

Anyhoo, the idea is that Troia is listening to James and B (who hasn't arrived in the story yet) argue about who's the Best. Finally Troia has enough and tells them neither of them are the best. They, of course, think she's implying she's the best. She sets them straight and gives them a mini lecture about why he JLA is the best - no individual can be the best because there's always a way to beat an individual. But a team that's diverse, where every member can cover for another's weakness, and that works together without having to think about how to, that's the Best.

    Idea for W@S

And a few things I don't want to forget for What's At S.T.E.A.K.

-Scene where the Leader is told about Gabrielle and Zachary and that they are being sent to his ship to take over for retiring Dolphin Leader. He's surprised and not too happy. "Have to babysit." "Institute was crazy to accept them and still is for graduating them to Department Leader ranks."

-Scene(s) where Leader and others meet G and Z. Dept. heads and Sub-Leader reactions. G jumping into Dolphin dept. and making "sweeping" changes. Z sort of standing back, taking notes, observer and quiet yet profound commentator type.

-Scene(s) where original crews reach the "promised" planet (need to name it), and find it's not actually compatible... (too much trace scienide (sp?) or alkaline or somesuch). Shock, stun/astonishment, anger/swearing, etc. As crew looks to Leader of a ship, Leader turns around and asks with helplessness "What do we do?" All leads to formation of what becomes modern S.T.E.A.K. program.

    More Ideas for Faith

Just a few things I don't want to forget before I get around to writing them:

-Addendum: as part of the chapters from other people's perspectives we learn that (luckily for Lord Carver) Cornelia and (luckily for Lady Carver) Jason favor their mother and therefore each other, Luke is almost a spitting image of his father, and Faith... looks like Lord Carver's sister who had been beloved by the people but who died long enough ago that most people don't remember what she looks like, if they even knew her, which was aided by Lord Carver having her picture removed from public view via an "accident" after Faith and Cornelia were born.

-Alternate Faith: the boy, who helped Faith get Jason to Doctor Limir after the attack the day he proposed, turns out to be Death. He shows up again, as the boy, with Jason and the Priest, helping the Priest carry stuff. As Faith dies, she recognizes him and wonders at his not having aged at all. He tells her why he helped her save Jason instead of taking Jason as had been the original plan as he pulls her away from her body. He explains to her who she is, or rather what her purpose is as she's a special soul, as he takes her to next body/life.

-Alternate Faith: "Carver Family Curse" has believed to have afflicted the family for three generations. That being that the first born daughter will die before she marries. Lord Carver's only sister, oldest aunt, and oldest great aunt all died before they married. As Cornelia's wedding approaches most people become very nervous and sad around her. Faith manages to get out of her cook friends the story of the curse, who tells the boys, and everyone plans and schemes for Cornelia's safety. The celebrating is great in the lands after her wedding, for in addition to the wedding all think the curse has been broken, by Faith's saving Cornelia from the attempted kidnapping. At least three people do not share the joy, and did not share the fear before the wedding: Mother Winterfields, Lord Carver, and Doctor Limir - the only three of those who know about Faith who also remember that Faith was born two weeks before Cornelia. At every turn Lord Carver is adamant about Faith not marrying Jason because he doesn't want Faith to die.
