Stories To Be

Bits and Pieces of my stories. Some posts here will be continuances of a story. Some will be details or ideas for a scene or other part of a story that isn't next but I don't want to forget. Each post will be titled with the name of the story it belongs to, to keep things from being confusing.

    New Story Idea! BBB

I'm so excited! I had a story idea come to me today while I was driving. I'm excited over it because, other than figuring out histories for characters I play in roleplaying games, I haven't had a real story idea in a LONG time.

    -----------------

"How many children do you have?" asked curiously.

"Oh I have one of each," beaming with pride. "Children! Come here!"

Gives the mother a 'either you're crazy or there's something wrong here' look as three children enter the room.

"This is my beautiful one. This is my strong athletic one. And this is my smart one," the mother explains.

    -----------------

Current title idea is "Beauty, Brawn, and Brains". It'd be about three siblings (right now I think two girls and a boy) and them having to work together to... do something, I haven't quite figured that out yet. Perhaps they run a company together. I figure the athletic one has street smarts also, and the pretty one knows how to work High Society and such, and the smart one just has no common sense. I want each of the three to need each of the others to cover for something they themselves can't do. The point is to have at least one character that anyone today can identify with.

Whatcha think? It's a brand new concept in my head, so any help would be appreciated. :)

A few scenes rattling around in my head that I don't want to forget:

    - Party scene, Beauty and Brawn bail on Brains, who stands wallflower like until *really cute* random person comes over to ask if Brains would be interested in person's friend.

    - "Today scene" where siblings stand up for Brains, followed by a back in time scene where similar incident occurred in High School and Brains was left standing embarrassed and heart broken alone in hallway. Shows the difference between teenager and adult mentalities and behavior.

    - Opening of story has Brawn in car accident in Beauty's car, 'cause Beauty was being targeted but Brawn survives where Beauty wouldn't have. Brain's out traveling cross country helping people when police come up to say sibling's in the hospital.

I need to name these folks! Of course I have to decide on genders before names are finalized too.... :p

Right now I'm thinking Alex for Brains, Alex being short for Alexandria and Alexander so the gender can go either way.

I'm thinking Adam or Aden for Brawn, assuming he's male.

No thoughts I'm seriously considering for Beauty yet.

Hmm, well, I don't know about names, I like the concept except that the labeling the mother puts the children through, something that obvious as her saying it, would more likely than not have some detrimental effect on the kid's mental healthy. Look at you and I, and the 'perfect' lable and how that affected you, and how my mothers labeling me as "Emily" without anything else when my siblings were all described, "Smart, troublemaker, Gift from God, Special that God sent me to teach me patience" affected me. Just a thought. It can't be all good, I think in reality there would be lots of Angst, feelings of being trapped by the lable, that's all there was to the kids, or the only way they were percieved. Imagine if Beauty was a good B-C student, or even an A student, but because Brains was super smart and All A's, people brushed her off as JUST being good looking, or if Brawns was injured, he'd be lost because the only measurement people ever took of him was his athletic ability.

Yes Emily, you make a very good point.

Part of me is saying "Yes! That's exactly the point!". I'm pretty sure that was intentional on my part. And now that I think about it from the perspective you give, I'd really like to use the story to show people that such labels are detrimental to children, and that people need to look past and try to see what an individual *really* is like instead of comparing someone to others around him/her.

I had already planned on writing the issues between siblings that would arise from such "statuses" within the family. The idea being to follow the characters through them, and then show the difference between how teens might deal with it and how the adult versions of the teens could reconcile (or perhaps not) the issues.

    Think I shouldn't?
