Beginning progress?

8 1/2 months today. 38 weeks tomorrow

Today’s OBGYN appointment revealed:
- Baby is head down, and very low
- 1.5 cm dilated
- 50% effaced

There was a bit of what I’ve been informed is called “bloody show” this morning. I’ll spare you the potty mouth details here. I called the OBGYN’s office, and nurse told me it was nothing to panic about. WHEW! Probably just lost part of my mucus plug.

Friday evening through Monday morning I occasionally had Braxon Hicks contractions. What a dirty trick those are. Don’t feel anything like contractions, but definitely are annoying pains! Resting / laying down seems to make them go away. Observational correlation suggests on the feet activity for “too long” brings them on. Of course “too long” varies by the moment.

I wrote all this in reverse order, to put the stuff people are more interested in at the top. All of it indicates progress. None of it indicates onset of labor!

I’m not used to this kind of slow progress to labor. With Amber, I went from 1/2 cm dilated to baby in under 24 hours! I had no Braxton Hicks, no water break, no bloody show, only cramping that changed to contractions that steadily progressed to labor. So even though this is my second time, it’s all new to me!
