Halloween – October – And a Bit More

I haven’t had time to post much, to write about what’s going on, how I feel. Pretty much all works fault. Though some of it the first half of Oct was Halloween too. (Actually, I still haven’t written about how great Mother’s Day was for me, so yeah…)

See, I jumped fast and excitedly into Halloween season this year. YAY. Amber easily came along for the ride. Double YAY! High in Halloween Spirit this year!

Due to another Halloween party we planned to attend, I set my Halloween party a week earlier than normal. Whew that scrunched getting both the house ready (not decorations, those were done by Oct 3rd!) and Amber’s costume done and made by the 18th. CRAM it in! It helped Amber knew right away and early what she wanted to be this year. A witch. (Really? I was expecting some Disney princess or maybe Doc McStuffins like for her birthday. A witch? Great! Easy! Well, mostly.) Oh, AND have all the party prep done too. But I did it, with last minute help from Greer. The house was more than good enough, though not quite where I wanted it.

ANYWAY. The early rush and party left my Halloween clock sense off. It was weird Halloween wasn’t then 8 or 9 days away, but about 2 weeks! Kinda of gave me a dull drop off feeling. By the time Halloween was eminent, I was pretty much done with it. Two Halloween parties and a daycare sponsored festival with Trunk-or-Treating all attended by us. Season celebrated and over! Nope. At least Halloween itself ignited the joy again.

But while things went very well that day overall, it was VERY COLD. First time Amber had been interested in Halloween and excited to go Trick-or-Treating, and I knew it was going to be dampened by the weather. All week they’d been saying rain. I warned Amber, but she was still enthusiastic: “I like rainy weather.” “I can wear my rain boots!” “I’ll jump in the puddles.”

It ended up not raining. Yay! But the cold and fierce wind, woo! I made her double layer under her costume and wear a hood (for under the witch hat she ended up not wearing – it would have just kept blowing off). Too late I thought about mittens. No matter, it was so cold that 1/2 an hour and Amber was over done. She still really wanted to trick or treat, but she couldn’t balance it with how cranky the cold was making her and her whining to go home. So we turned back. Amber got more than enough candy for someone her size anyway. And it meant we were home to hand out candy to the 6 trick-or-treaters who came by (that’s actually a high side number for my house. 8 is the record!) Just as we arrived home, it started snowing. Seriously. Flakes large enough to easily see the crystallize shapes! Big fluffy ones. Very cool, had it not been Halloween! One lasted a few minutes, but still. Brrr!

In the end, Amber was happy to be home in the warmth and watch a Halloween movie. I should have gone with the one she had seen twice already and wanted to see again instead of a new movie neither of us had seen and turned out to be not so good. :/ Oh well. It was still a nice Halloween!

I am SO looking forward to Thanksgiving. (Another reason I had a hard time holding up the Halloween Spirit near the end of the month.) Train ride with Amber. Thanksgiving at Michael’s. Shopping – not too much – with Mom on Friday afternoon. Maybe even get to see some friends. WOO! Hope I don’t hype it so much it can’t live up to the expectation.

Amber is looking forward to the train ride too, she keeps telling me about it. She’s also very looking forward to having Pumpkin pie. She says she loves pumpkins (she’s never had them). She asked me why I don’t make pumpkin pie (because of pumpkins and Halloween you know). I said “I don’t know how. But you know who does? Grandmama. I bet if you ask her, she’ll make one for you for Thanksgiving.” So Amber asked over Skype one day, and Mom happily said yes. We’ll see how it goes!
