I Have Finally Seen the New Star Trek Movie

It was cute.

I completely accept that story line. Doesn't bother me. They did not change cannon. Even the character ages were correct (enough). It's still a reboot though.

Sad, I'll likely never be able to see it again. It physically hurts my eyes too much, I had to keep looking away. They did so much of that awful film style that when there actually were still camera scenes they were jarring to come back to. Perhaps when it reaches cable TV I'll be able to put in on an listen to it in the background.

Star Trek had some great moments, but the plot was only mediocre - standard for Star Trek. What they did was mildly impressive. I say... it's slightly better than an average TOS episode

Star Trek movie wise ST:IV is still the best TOS movie (this one gives it a run for its money though, if it weren't for the filming style.) ST:Generations was just as good and ST:Nemesis was better. I should probably go watch those three movies again to be sure of those statements

Well, I'm glad you got to see it and liked what you did of it.

I have not seen Star Trek IV since we watched it at what I guess should now be called your mom's house. I should probably check it out again since I'm now a little more versed in Trek lore and a friend of mine said that II, III, and IV are worth watching and they kind of form a single arc. I recall being a little surprised at how lightly they treated the idea of going back in time and messing with the past. Maybe that's why Paramount is so willing to use time travel to reboot the continnuity. If Scotty says it's OK.

I liked "Generations" until I saw the TNG episode "Relics" which virtually all of Kirk's big lines were cribbed from. It struck me as lazy rather than cute.

I remember liking parts of "Nemesis," but when casual Trek fan me notices continuity issues, something is wrong. "My God! An android that looks exactly like Data! This is shocking and unprecedented!" Ummm, no. You've seen one of those already. His name's Lore. Perhaps you remember him. Would have been nice if you had mentioned him.
