Tuesday, May 12, 2009Holy !"D'Zhana Simmons, 14, survived 118 days with no heart beating in her body. The South Carolina girl underwent a heart transplant in July, but the organ didn't work properly. Doctors replaced it with a pair of artificial pumping devices that kept her alive until she could have a second transplant."
"In December, an 11-year-old archer had an narrow escape after being shot through the eye by a teammate. The arrow went through Liu Cheong's eye socket and more than four inches into his head, where it was stopped by the back of his skull. It took doctors at Jida Hospital in Changchun, China, four hours to extract the object. The boy survived because the projectile missed his brain." And an aww, sad: "British baby Suraya Brown suffers from a mysterious condition that prevents her from growing, the Mirror reported Jan. 2. At 14 months, she is the size of a newborn, weighing 7 pounds and measuring only 19 inches long. "She has been a real conundrum," one doctor told the newspaper." Finally: "Claudia Castillo is breathing easily again after receiving a new windpipe in June 2008. The new windpipe, or trachea, came from a donor but it was covered with tissue grown from Castillo's own stem cells. That means Castillo does not need to take anti-rejection drugs, which can have serious side effects." - Sweet! |
