Signs of the Times

Who's on the Money?

"The men who did great deeds, from crossing this land at their peril, to making it possible to avoid the lawlessness of the opening of the West seen in America, to the sheer act of Confederation and its maintenance and growth are now ignored - because they weren't women, they weren't minorities, they weren't suitably "liberal". This brushing-under-the-carpet has gone so far that, upon entering a class ostensibly near the end of the year of learning Canadian History, and pulling out a $5, $10, $50 and $100 note, no one could identify who was on the money."

A sad state of affairs. Women and minorities need their equality, but that means equal not overriding. Caucasian men deserve the same as everyone else too. Just because our history didn't allow for that doesn't mean we should ignore it. Failing to teach history as it was only hurts us all in the long run! Good things happened in history too, those events and the people who did them should get the recognition they deserve also.

Do you know Who's on the Money?
