Monday, July 16, 2007Ah-Choo!Went to the allergy doctor this morning. Got two kinds of testing done: 30 back scratch tests and 4 intra derm tests (which means they used a needle to put things under the skin of my arm). And it turns out I'm allergic to a lot of things. I'll put the level of my allergy in parenthesis next to each item I discuss. "Reactions are graded on a 1 to 4+ basis," the form says.First and foremost, I'm allergic to both kinds of dust mites tested for, and so allergic to both that I was off their scales! Mite P (4+^), Mite F (4+^). Beyond that, I'm allergic to cats and dogs, as we all already knew. The surprise to me is that I'm more allergic to cats (3) than dogs (2)! It's likely because I go to efforts to avoid dogs, but not cats. I'm also allergic to Birch (3), Elm (3), and Maple (2) trees. All of which pollinate in the Spring. I'm also allergic to grass (3). They specifically tested for Timothy grass, which pollinates in the Summer. I'm also allergic to English Plantain (3) and Burweed March Elder (2) weeds, though not Pigweed. And I'm allergic to some sort of Ragweed (3), though not to the immediate touch as the scratch test didn't yield conclusive results and so they did the under skin test. All of these pollinate in the Fall. I'm also allergic to cockroaches (3), yecch. That probably developed during that year or more when I had them in my house. But I don't anymore, so I don't think this allergy is contributing much to my current problems. Lastly, I'm allergic to histamine control (4). Hah! I knew it. I've always had severe drowsy reactions to medicines with decongestants, even non-drowsy Sudafed and Dayquil and the like always made me sleepy. People tell me that's not possible. Well guess what, now I have medical proof that I'm not making it up. So, all that means I have year round allergies with dust, and then Spring/Summer/Fall allergies in addition. Yay me! :p Not. |
