Treating the "Dead"

Wow! This is great! And really fascinating too. Doctors Change the Way They Think About Death. Basically: cells do not start dying after 4-5 minutes, they actually live up to a couple hours after "clinical death". Cells only loose the ability to process Oxygen correctly after minutes. So when they suddenly start receiving normal levels of O2 again, they essentially die of shock. Which means there's potential to be able to resuscitate people up to 2 hours instead of just 5 minutes! If researchers can figure out how to reintroduce O2 to cells that haven't received any in a while without causing them to freak out and die.... Hopefully that'll be done and the equipment standard in hospitals before any of us need the service. :)
