Wednesday, July 19, 2006Cat ThingsWell, I accidentally named the cat Kit-Kat last night. It's only a temporary name for me for the rest of this week.Yesterday I was all twitchy inside at work thinking about him at home alone in my guest bathroom. I was happy after I got home from work and found my bathroom floor was not slick! And it doesn't seem to be due to the towels I put down: Kit-Kat isn't covered in dampness anymore either! Much Yay-ness, the gross factor is now way down. His ear has stopped bleeding too. All that's left is he needs a bath - which I can't do. I couldn't even bath a baby last year, how in the world would I figure out how to bathe a squirmy cat?! - and that his right paw seems to still bleed a little bit on occasion. But he's climbing cabinets, and wants to be pet a lot. He also really wants to get out of the bathroom, we've had a couple contests of will over that already. But he hasn't hissed or scratched or bit or anything, even when I'm trying to force his medicine on him. He really doesn't like the ear drops or the oral antibiotics. And it took me until the second paw this morning to finally figure out how to get the topical for his paws on correctly. But he's only ever shrunk away from me or tried to hole up in a corner to avoid the meds, no lashing out, so that's good. Comments

"how in the world would I figure out how to bathe a squirmy cat?!" -The same way people first did. By doing. =) As to the 'getting out', maybe try *firmly holding him* either as you would a baby or curled snugly, and take him for a little walk around the house?

I feel your pain on the meds and ear drops for the cat. Our cat, Nova, needs oral antibiotics and ear mite drops every day for the next week or two, and he doesn't like them one bit. It's quite an adventure. Good luck with your kitty, darling!

I cleaned up my porch this morning and let him out there for an hour. Made me feel much better. And I hope him too. After walking it around once, he sat in the far window and just looked outside most of the time. The bathroom I've kept him in doesn't have a window so it must have been nice to see something besides tan walls. But the porch heats way up in the summer due to the sun beating in on it and the one side being all windows. So I can't let him stay out there during the day. I'm hoping to be able to let him stay out there all night tonight. But I'm a bit concerned about him and the litter box if they both get moved to the porch. I'm thinking I'm going to try and use a wet towel and wipe him down tonight as a temporary substitute for a bath. -Jennifer |
